The story of La Rochère begins in Burgundy-Franche-Comté in the 15th century.

Simon de Thysac, a glassmaking gentleman, settled in the Vosges Mountains and established the factory for strategic and economic reasons. At the time, this region of France was a trade route between the North and the South, Italy and the Netherlands. It was also a region oriented towards Europe. "Burgundy-Franche-Comté was ideal for raw materials, such as wood, silica, and water."
