Keith Brymer Jones
Ceramics at the heart.
Many know Keith Brymer Jones as the judge on the popular television show The Great Pottery Throw Down, but his true passion and lifelong career is ceramics. With over four decades of experience as a ceramicist and design expert, Keith has created his own award winning collections, including the much loved Word Range, while also collaborating with designers, illustrators, artists and fashion houses both in Britain and internationally.
A lifelong calling.
Keith first discovered clay at age 11, when he made a simple pottery owl. The process gave him a sense of escapism and set him on the path to becoming a potter. After a short time as the lead singer of a punk band, he began an apprenticeship at Harefield Pottery in London at 18. There he learned the craft of turning hard work and tradition into modern ceramics.
Building a career.
From his first studio in Highgate, Keith hand made ceramics for iconic retailers such as Conran, Habitat, Barneys New York, Monsoon, Laura Ashley and Heals. In 2008 he partnered with Dominic Speelman to form MAKE International, where Keith is Director and Head of Design. Their studio, based in a converted bakery in Whitstable, Kent, is where Keith continues to design every item at the potter’s wheel before working with trusted colleagues at factories overseas to bring them to life.
The Word Range.
Every piece in Keith’s award winning Word Range is hand debossed and individually checked to ensure the highest quality. With his unique combination of humour, craftsmanship and design expertise, Keith Brymer Jones continues to shape ceramics that are timeless, functional and deeply personal.
