That’s why we’re continually making conscious choices to reduce our footprint and support more sustainable practices.

From selecting locally grown, seasonal flowers to offering eco-conscious gifts for home, garden, body, and life, our goal is to bring you beauty that feels good and does good. By choosing seasonal blooms and working with local growers wherever possible, we can minimise transport miles, reduce waste, and ensure the freshest quality for you.

🌱 Grown Not Flown

A huge number of flowers are flown into New Zealand every week. They carry enormous carbon miles, are chemically treated, and pose a risk of invasive pests entering Aotearoa.
At The Flower Crate, we use only New Zealand grown flowers. Supporting local growers means fresher blooms, fewer chemicals, and a smaller carbon footprint.

🌸 Plastic Free Flowers

It may surprise you to know that most commercially sold flowers arrive packaged in single-use plastic sleeves, which almost always end up in landfill.
We avoid these sleeves wherever possible, purchasing only unpackaged bunches. When plastic packaging can’t be avoided, we ensure all soft plastics are recycled responsibly.

🚫 No Floral Foam

Floral foam is a fine-celled plastic that breaks down into harmful micro-particles, polluting waterways and endangering marine life. It’s also listed as both an Acute and Chronic Health Hazard.
 We do not - and will not - ever use floral foam. Instead, we use sustainable techniques and reusable mechanics to build our arrangements.

🌾 Naturally Dried

Our dried flowers are created in-house, by carefully drying fresh New Zealand-grown blooms. Unlike imported preserved flowers, ours are free from harsh chemicals, bleach, or dyes. This means they’re safe to touch, safe to smell, and safe to enjoy in your home.

♻️ Vase Returns

To help reduce waste and build a circular model, we offer a vase return programme for all Flower Crate customers. Bring or send back your unwanted Flower Crate vase, and you’ll receive a discount on your next order. Every vase returned is cleaned, reused, and given a new life in another arrangement.

🔄 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

At The Flower Crate, we live by these principles. We work hard to reduce our use of plastics, reuse incoming packaging wherever possible for outgoing orders, and recycle diligently. All of our green waste goes into our own compost system, and we recycle our cardboard, paper, and soft plastics through local services.
